Ability Works Australia Ltd is a successful not for profit Social Enterprise established in 1963.
At Ability Works we believe employment is the best way for people living with a disability or experiencing social disadvantage to achieve a sense of purpose, pride and belonging.
Everyone deserves the same opportunities to work. People living with a disability and/or who experience social disadvantage face significant barriers to employment.
Ability Works breaks down those barriers by offering our 180+ staff, training and employment alongside expert support that is tailored to their needs and the requirements of our customers.
As a social enterprise, meeting our social mission of “Purpose through Employment” is as important to us as commercial outcomes. We proudly partner with organisations and companies that are equally committed to empowering lives at the same time as producing exceptional quality products and generating business value.
As a member of the Board, you will provide leadership to Ability Works Australia ensuring that it achieves continuing prosperity in the best interests of Ability Works Australia and its stakeholders. The Board is responsible for establishing Ability Works Australia’s purpose, values and setting the strategic direction as the basis for further planning, e.g., annual, and longer- term planning. It determines the appropriate culture for Ability Works Australia and models behaviours that both reflect and promulgate the desired culture.
It also establishes governance policies that provide the framework for the management of Ability Works Australia’s financial, human resource, and asset management, and ensures that internal processes and procedures are designed to provide effective controls that serve as the basis for reporting to the Board as required. The Board employs the Chief Executive and monitors management and organisation performance against Board-established criteria. The Board also identifies and monitors the management of organisational risks and ensures that the organisation complies with all internal and externally imposed compliance requirements.
As part of a commitment toward Board succession planning and renewal, we are looking to attract a suitably qualified candidate to the Ability Works Australia Ltd Board.
Candidates should be able to demonstrate relevant skills and experience in financial literacy, strategic thinking, and be able to act in an informed and independent manner with the highest ethical standards and integrity.
In addition, we are looking for candidates with specific experience within the Disability Sector, and candidates who have established relationships within Government.
The position is offered on a volunteer basis.
