Solomon Islands is in a unique situation of having sent a significant number of students to train in medicine at universities around the world. Consequently, a much larger annual cohort of new medical officers (up to 25 per year) will be returning to Solomon Islands over the next five years.
A two-year Solomon Islands Internship Training Program has been developed which all new medical graduates must complete in order to gain registration as a medical practitioner. This is one of a number of roles to support the training of these interns – with a focus on Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
This role is supported by the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (RANZCOG) who have established relationships with O&G consultants and NRH mid-wives already.
In consultation with their line manager and relevant stakeholders, Australian volunteers complete a work plan in the first three (3) months of their assignment. The duties below are an indication of the type of work that may be involved in meeting the Assignment Objectives:
