Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation Officer (voluntary) - Philippines

Australian Volunteers Program

The Philippines is one of the most vulnerable countries for disasters, ranking as the third highest country at risk for natural disasters. Natural disasters and hazards terribly affect the agriculture sector with loss of crops, livestock, and feeds, threatening food security and farmer’s livelihoods, and displacing hundreds to thousands of poor families from their homes. In 2010, the Philippine National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) published its 15-year NDRRM Plan that outlines strategies for effective disaster preparedness, response, prevention and mitigation, and rehabilitation and recovery. A volunteer is needed to assist the Department of Agriculture Region 5 in increasing the capacity of its staff on mainstreaming Disaster Risk Reduction - Climate Change Adaptation (DRR-CCA).

  • The objective of this assignment is to increase capacity of the regional and provincial staff of the Department of Agriculture Region 5 in mainstreaming DRR-CCA to all their respective programs and projects.
  • You will also assist the staff in creating a well functioning DRR unit within the organisation.
  • The successful candidate will need qualifications in Environmental Planning and Management, Climate Change, Urban/Regional Planning, Agrometeorology, or other related field, accompanied by at least two years experience with DRRM-CCA mainstreaming in regional, national, or local level.
