Job Description

As a key member of the ATSICHS Brisbane team, the General Practitioner is expected to personally contribute to the shaping and achievement of ATSICHS vision and goals within their own scope. The General Practitioner will provide three (3) Key Functions 

Role Functions 

Deliver comprehensive and holistic health care within the framework of the IUIH model of care to achieve improved health outcomes for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Culturally appropriate health care provision begins with rapport building and includes acute illness or injury, prevention, early detection, chronic disease management, care throughout the life span, health promotion, support for social-emotional well being and consideration of the social determinants of health.  

Organisational Contributions 

GP’s support processes that ensure the IUIH model of care facilitates comprehensive and holistic health care delivered with the highest quality. Included activities are peer review, CQI, policy implementation, clinical supervision, clinical audits and reporting of clinical incidents. 

Contribute to the Development of a Flourishing Team 

Support fellow staff in a team environment to build collegiality and a sense of belongingness within the team and ATSICHS family. Staff will actively participate in team activities and contribute to a flourishing workplace culture that promotes the ethos and values of ATSICHS Brisbane as a long standing Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation.  

GPs have a distinctive role to provide clinical leadership in the primary health care team. 

Desired Skills and Experience

Essential:  

  • MBBS 
  • Unconditional registration with AHPRA 
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a medical practitioner in a general practice / primary health care setting (including post-graduate training) 
  • Demonstrated ability to meet targets and performance outcomes.  
  • Ability to support a continuous improvement model for achieving outcomes. 
  • Decisive listening, influencing and persuasive skills. 
  • Working with Children’s Card (Blue Card) or be eligible to apply  

Desirable, but not mandatory: 

  • Previous experience of working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients. 
  • Registered GP Supervisor  
  • Vocational Registration
