The Australia Pacific Training Coalition (APTC) is a centre for training excellence and collaboration, working in partnership with regional governments, industry and TVET training providers to develop a more skilled, inclusive and productive workforce aligned with domestic and international labour market requirements that enhances Pacific prosperity.

The Role

APTC is embarking on a significant expansion in scope, scale and geographic spread of activities within PNG with the establishment of the Australian Government funded PNG Skills for Sub-National Growth Investment (SNGI) within an already large and successful program of TVET delivery and support.

The Director Academic (TVET) PNG will play a key role ensuring effective and compliant delivery of APTC’s Australian standard qualifications and skills sets and develop, influence and implement capability development strategies for identified PNG TVET partner institutions to achieve improved quality TVET provisions across teaching and learning, governance and management.

The Director will play a critical role in collaboration with the Executive Country Director PNG to drive change in;

• Business development and commercial growth though the identification, development and delivery of responsive training and assessment services underpinned by effective relationships with industry, donors and community across PNG.
• Ensuring programs are of high quality and meet all ASQA and TAFE Queensland’s RTO compliance requirements or approved accredited PNG national regulatory requirements, delivered directly by APTC or through national TVET institutions supported by APTC as part of the annual training profile.
• Developing, influencing and implementing capability development strategies for identified PNG TVET partner institutions to achieve improved quality TVET provisions across teaching and learning, governance and management.
• Providing continuous improvement, innovation and support to the PNG TVET sector, the Director TVET will foster the development of a cohesive, industry demand and student focused TVET sector with emphasis on learner and employer satisfaction.

To be successful in this role you must have;

1. Post Graduate qualifications in education or business management plus extensive relevant experience in a senior vocational education and training management role.
2. TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or higher Australian Vocational Training and Assessment qualification.
3. A proven track record, success and extensive experience in leading vocational education and training from a strategic, quality, compliance and operational perspective, in multiple locations to culturally and linguistically diverse client groups.
4. Demonstrated high level technical knowledge and application of Quality TVET systems and activities in compliance with national TVET regulators, ASQA standards and RTOs.
5. Proven ability to lead and work collaboratively and ethically with TVET partners, Government and various stakeholders in promoting and driving TVET Reforms and System Strengthening through ongoing monitoring, adaptation and system development.
6. Highly developed interpersonal communication skills with proven experience in building and sustaining productive internal and external stakeholder relationships, and working collaboratively to foster a positive and cohesive work environment.
7. Established conceptual, analytical and thinking and working politically (TWP) skills including the ability to identify emerging issues, and expertise to resolve operational issues and manage innovative solutions to complex problems.
8. Excellent written and ICT skills, project planning, project management, and an ability to prepare high-level responses and reports.
9. Strong project management skills and the ability to manage change and quality improvement initiatives.
