In this role, you will establish and lead a purposeful and passionate organisation and create a working environment that you can be proud of. The CEO will work to deliver exceptional customer service to the Council & Communities, whilst always striving to find ways to make the organisation more efficient and effective. This work will be delivered in collaboration with the senior leadership team and in consultation with the elected members.
The CEO will implement Council’s mission, vision, values, policies, accountability, and compliance with all relevant Acts, laws, regulations, and policies. Through an advanced understanding of community trends, the environment, and policy implications the CEO will evaluate complex and strategic issues, assess options and risk, and make effective decisions.
Barkly Regional Council (BRC) is a Local Government entity that operates in the Northern Territory with BRC’s head office located in Tennant Creek
. BRC is primarily focused on traditional local government services in the municipality but has a significantly broader remit in the regions with a mission to build sustainable community services that have a direct impact on the lives of primarily Aboriginal people in the bush through the delivery of a broad range of services on behalf of the NT and Commonwealth governments.

Barkly Regional Council is looking for a current CEO or a seasoned senior executive within a similar industry and/or organisation looking to step into a CEO role. Candidates should have a strong grasp of governance, planning, professional management, excellent interpersonal skills, and appropriate qualifications.
Ideally, candidates will have gained knowledge, skills, and experience through work experiences in local government, utility, or similar positions/industries. BRC is looking for a resilient leader with the ability to persevere to achieve intended outcomes. The ideal CEO will be a transformational leader that enjoys working in a community and can positively impact the organisation.
With an expert knowledge of financial, staff management, and governance disciplines the ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate an understanding of Indigenous culture with the capacity to work alongside active and involved elected members.
Exceptional communication skills and deep values will enable the right candidate to create a positive culture and deliver outcomes while managing risk and driving community satisfaction and engagement. BRC is looking for a CEO with strong conceptual and analytical skills and the ability to apply these in strategic planning, business development, advocacy, and financial management. Suitable candidates should be able to problem solve using creative thinking and drive positive and sustainable change.
