About the role

The Research Officer will play a key role in delivering research objectives under Australian Network on Disability’s 2022-2025 Strategic Plan. The purpose of this role is to strengthen our sector position as a trusted provider of evidence-based thought leadership for disability inclusion.

The Research Officer will report into the Strategic Development Manager and is responsible for:

  • strengthening AND’s sector position as a trusted provider of evidence-based thought leadership for disability inclusion
  • mining relevant disability data across Australia and internationally to inform practice
  • identifying and delivering research projects (determining the goals of the research project / research methods, reviewing and analysing the data while ensuring projects remain on schedule)
  • establishing strategic research partnerships to leverage data insights and use them effectively to inform our Network.

Tasks will include:

  • Mining existing data – internally and externally to identify gaps and areas to focus;
  • Conducting research to strengthen the evidence-base for disability inclusion in Australia;
  • Making effective use of data (locally and globally) to increase AND’s visibility and reputation;
  • Identifying and delivering research projects to be conducted in association with AND team members, our members, university partners and the Australian community;
  • Establishing strategic partnerships with universities and other entities recognised in the field of disability and inclusion research;
  • Conducting research into submissions and recommendations for disability inclusion reviews (e.g. government reforms, Disability Royal Commission and disability taskforces) and analysis of key findings that can be presented to an employer audience.

Key deliverables of the role:

  • Identify sources of funding, prepare research proposals and submit funding applications;
  • Source relevant data and analyse for trends, patterns, summaries and meaning;
  • Manage and establish relationships with research partners and agencies;
  • Present research results as actionable business insights in a variety of formats depending on the audience (e.g. MS Word report, PowerPoint Presentations, Infographics, papers);
  • Collaborate with a variety of stakeholders including employers and government agencies.

Qualifications and capabilities

  • Relevant degree / post graduate qualification with relevant experience
  • At least 2 years’ experience in research roles that require strong interpersonal skills

  • Experience with Zotero, SPSS and NVIVO favourably considered
  • High level proficiency in Microsoft Office software applications
  • Able to, and comfortable with, using teleconferencing and videoconferencing for member and inter-office meetings
