The Australian Indigenous Governance Institute (AIGI) is an Indigenous-led national centre specialising in governance knowledge and excellence. Our headquarters are located at the Brisbane Technology Park in Eight Mile Plains, Queensland, with staff working remotely in various Australian states and territories, and we are proudly governed by an all-Indigenous Board of Directors. the opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Assistant (Content Development) to join our team! This role will report to Project Officer (Content Development), and will have the following core responsibilities:

  1. Plan, develop, organise, write and edit written content relevant to AIGI’s program delivery priorities, including for its online platform of educational materials and information;
  2. Perform online and on-the-ground primary research and analysis under the supervision of the Project Officer: Content Development as a part of the Content Development team;
  3. Contribute to preparation of AIGI’s publications, consultancy reports, evaluations, manuals, conference/seminar papers, literature reviews, discussion papers, training materials, funding applications and web copy;
  4. Liaise with and positively manage relationships with key internal and external stakeholders related to content development, such as external copywriters, academics and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations and communities;
  5. Participate in interviews to collect primary data for AIGI’s educational materials, such as AIGI’s ‘Governance Stories’;
  6. Support AIGI’s advocacy strategy, contributing to opportunities for AIGI input and submission including to government and other inquiries;
  7. Administrative functions primarily connected with current AIGI research and projects;
  8. Other duties as allocated by the supervisor consistent with the classification of the position.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (SELECTION CRITERIA)

The successful candidate for this position will be able to address the following criteria:

  1. Demonstrated understanding of the importance of working with Aboriginal organisations, communities and individuals in culturally appropriate ways, including communicating effectively and sensitively with Indigenous peoples.
  2. Organisational and time-management skills and experience in a team environment, including the ability to contribute to project plans, juggle priorities, and work to deadlines with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  3. An ability to prepare high quality written content for various audiences, including general correspondence, reports, funding submissions, research reports, educational materials and web copy.
  4. Strong analytical, research and communications skills.
  5. An ability to undertake some interstate travel.
  6. Have completed three years of tertiary study or equivalent research and/or writing qualifications, or currently undertaking such study.
  7. Desirable but not essential attributes include proficiency in various forms of creative media, including but not limited to social media, videography, interviewing and use of email marketing tools.
