Role overview:

The State Manager NSW is an integral part of the Membership Services team. Reporting to the GM Membership and working closely to support the NSW President, the role is responsible for the efficient operation and delivery of the Chapter’s wide range of events and programs, utilising resources and contacts to achieve the Institute’s strategic objectives.

You’ll provide the contemporary thinking and leadership that will deliver on all aspects of our strategic vision, while also continuously developing our member services portfolio across NSW. On a broader level, you’ll play a key role in influencing positive change and innovation across the sector, as well as building strong relationships across the architectural sector, utilising your outstanding communication and engagement skills.

You embrace collaboration, accountability and innovation, with the confidence and professionalism to quickly build credibility and working relationships with a broad range of stakeholders. You’ll demonstrate resilience by continuing to perform effectively when faced with time pressures and adversity and remain focused, composed, and optimistic in difficult situations.

A strong financial and commercial mindset will allow you to identify and explore new opportunities for growth and collaboration with our partners to ensure the Institute delivers services to members that are practical, relevant and responsive while ensuring profitability and financial success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and implement strategies to drive membership growth, with a focus on both new and renewing memberships through delivery of innovative engagement initiatives.
  • Facilitate and work closely with the Chapter President, Council, Committees and working groups as well as developing and delivering on the organisation’s strategic plans.
  • Develop member recruitment and retention strategies, articulating a strong value proposition that accompanies a robust member services program.
  • Manage and deliver the high-profile NSW Architectural Awards program and associated events, working closely with the NSW team to ensure a smooth and efficient program is run.
  • Supporting the President, coordinate relationships with government bodies, professional associations and industry organisations.
  • Coordinate the chapter’s local sponsorship program, building positive industry relations across the State.
  • Effectively manage staff to achieve goals while role modelling positive behaviours that reflect the Institute’s values, ensuring all team members have a high level of awareness of the organisation’s policies, adhering to the Institute’s internal systems and specific processes.
  • Prepare budgets and manage and monitor the performance of the approved budgets.
  • Develop and maintain a close working relationship with the State and Federal based Schools of Architecture

Key Selection Criteria:

  • Experience working in membership associations where you can demonstrate previous success in membership growth and engagement
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal as well as excellent presentation skills
  • Strong collaborative relationship management
  • Commercial and strategic acumen
  • Solutions-focused and developed problem-solving skills
  • Experience in working with or an understanding of the architecture and built environment sector and an empathy with design excellence
