Aboriginal Housing Victoria (AHV) is an Aboriginal[1] community organisation responsible for managing more than 1,600 rental properties for Aboriginal people living in Victoria.

In addition to being the largest Aboriginal Registered Housing Agency in Australia, AHV is the lead agency for Victoria’s Aboriginal housing and homelessness policy, Mana-na woorn-tyeen maar-takoort. As the housing and homeless policy lead in the Victorian Aboriginal community, AHV has responsibility to work in partnership with the Government to secure the resources and reforms to implement the policy, while we support sector development to empower Victoria’s Aboriginal community to determine its chosen housing future.

AHV's housing services are targeted to those most in need of support. Through the provision of secure housing by an Aboriginal rental provider, AHV helps strengthen and maintain Aboriginal communities and cultural ties.

AHV's Assets and Development Division is responsible for managing all major capital developments being undertaken by/or behalf of AHV. The Contract Administrator provides administrative support to the Development Management Team, including assistance with project administration, project communications, financial reporting and maintenance of the Development Management Framework.

The person in this role will need to be highly motivated, with a strong administration and project management focus.

Essential requirements:

  • Awareness and appreciation of Aboriginal communities and cultures and an understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal people in contemporary Australia and the diversity of circumstances of Aboriginal people.
  • Extensive experience in contract and development administration in relation to housing development projects.
  • Experience in establishing and using contract and development management systems.
  • A thorough understanding of project office and general office procedures and record keeping together with good organisational and planning skills.
  • High level written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated time management skills and ability to manage a complex/ mixed workload.
  • Demonstrated high-level proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrated experience in introducing improvements to processes and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with finance teams to ensure correct financial reporting of projects.

Desirable requirements:

  • Previous employment experience in the social housing, not-for-profit, community services sectors.
  • Previous employment experience working in the development and/or construction industry.
  • Occupational Health and Safety Construction Induction (Red/White) Card.

This position will be based in our Fitzroy North office with travel required.
