Action for Dolphins (afd.org.au) is working to stop the slaughter of thousands of dolphins in commercial hunts. In 2015 we launched the first lawsuit in relation to the world's largest dolphin drive hunts in Taiji, Japan - and won.
Now we've turned our sights towards ending dolphin captivity in Australia, and recently joined with three political parties to announce an exciting new bill to abolish the cruel practice of dolphin captivity in NSW.
We're looking for someone passionate about AFD's cause and social media to help manage our online presence. If this is you, we'd love to hear from you.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a passionate and communications driven individual to gain experience working in a not for profit setting. The Media and Communications Intern will nurture AFD’s growing online community and focus their efforts on engaging supporters online.
The role will involve ongoing and structured engagement with audiences on relevant online, media and social media platforms. In practice, this could mean anything from writing interesting blog articles and compiling social media posts, to responding to comments on Facebook and generating content for Instagram and Twitter.
For candidates interested in media or journalism, there will also be opportunities to pitch and contribute to articles in the national and international press. AFD has contributed to articles published in numerous media platforms including The Australian, 60 Minutes, Bloomberg, The Daily Mail and Asahi Shimbun in Japan.
This position will also require monitoring interaction and generating ideas to increase engagement with our audience.
Please note that as a small organisation, the role will also involve necessary administrative duties, including helping with mail outs, fundraising, and donor administration.
This is a 3 month, voluntary position. The successful candidate will be offered a $500 stipend to cover travel and incidental costs for the 3 month period.
We welcome creative ideas. If you do not meet all of the below criteria, but believe you have the skills and passion to make a difference, we encourage you to provide a brief description detailing how you can make a valuable contribution.
This role requires a minimum 3 month time commitment.
Ideally, we would like the successful candidate to come into the office (we are based in Mullumbimby, Northern NSW) 2 days per week for at least 4 hours per day (8 hours a week total). However, we are a flexible organisation and some work may be undertaken after hours or from home on occasion.
In return for your hard work and dedication, you will be rewarded with fantastic experience and the knowledge that you will be working for an organisation committed to making a difference.
The internship is about you! We not only want to hear about your experience, we also want to hear about why you want to join the team, and what you hope to get from your experience. So please include this information in your accompanying cover letter.
