The National Aerial Firefighting Centre (NAFC) is a business unit of AFAC which exists to deliver aerial support through national collaboration and cooperation; delivering a safe, effective and efficient aerial capability; supporting and enhancing fire and emergency management in Australia. A key function of NAFC is to procure the national fleet of firefighting aircraft for States and Territories.

The Role

The Project Officer, NAFC will be responsible for project administration, reporting and finance of the Resource to Risk Project and ARENA Works Program. The role will assist the NAFC team to develop, support and maintain decision support tools that contribute to aerial firefighting operations in Australasia. This role will include delivery and coordination of key administration tasks to achieve key milestones, outcomes and timelines of the projects.

The position will also engage with the NAFC Supporting Operations Directorate regarding ongoing project priorities and achievements.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Project delivery

  • Project administration for the NAFC Resource to Risk Project and ARENA Works Program
  • Maintain project management plans and tracking
  • Record keeping for contracts and resourcing requirements
  • Monitor and maintain project budget records, invoicing and expenditure
  • Provide secretariat duties for project working groups, including preparation of agenda, papers and record keeping.
  • Administer the project risk register, issues log and change management records for the project.
  • In conjunction with the project Managers, produce and maintain regular reporting to AFAC Director, National Projects and Innovation, and NAFC Strategic Committee.

Governance and administration

  • Escalate project issues and recommendations to senior leadership as appropriate
  • Maintain engagement with and input from project Working Groups.

Industry engagement

  • Engage with, support and collaborate with agencies across the wider AFAC membership.
  • Attend, present or represent AFAC at various events, where required.
