Our Organisation

The Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) is the peak union body representing almost 2 million workers and their families.

Since our creation in 1927, the ACTU has spearheaded some of the most fundamental workplace struggles in Australia’s history.

The ACTU’s role as a peak body is to encourage workers to join their union, be a national voice for our movement, and advance and defend workers’ rights by co-ordinating union campaigns, representing workers at a range of government and non-government forums and to provide industrial, policy and other support to our affiliates.

The Role

As part of the Media Team, this role will work with the rest of the team in media liaison and engagement for the industrial, economic, social and political agenda of the ACTU across broadcast, print and online media channels.

This role is responsible for the timely and accurate coordination of media relations including planning execution and monitoring of media communications.

Key responsibilities

  • Researching, preparing and writing copy for a range of mediums and purposes including speeches, media releases and other printed materials.
  • Collating data and research of published material that supports effective and informative media ACTU communications.
  • Assist with monitoring and tracking the media.
  • Supporting other ACTU teams to effectively implement the communications requirements of the organisation.
  • Working with affiliates as directed to ensure that the stories and campaigns of the union movement are communicated effectively to the public.
  • Commitment to and passion for the values of the Australian union movement.
  • Strong writing and communications skills across a variety of mediums.
  • Effective understanding of the Australian Union movement, Australian politics and issues impacting working people.
  • Experience identifying media opportunities.
  • Working well within diverse and demanding campaigns and a wide variety of stakeholders.

Benefits

The ACTU will offer the successful candidate a salary in the range of $91,223 - $101,246 dependent on skills and experience, along with an additional 15% superannuation, annual leave loading, working from home opportunities and generous leave arrangements (including up to 5 additional days of annual leave).
