Financial Controller

Australian Council of Trade Unions
  • In this newly created role, the ACTU seeks to appoint a Financial Controller to manage the day-to-day operations of the Finance team.
  • The role is based in Melbourne.

Our Organisation

The Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) is the peak union body representing over 1.5 million workers and their families.

Since its creation in 1927, the ACTU has spearheaded some of the most fundamental workplace struggles in Australia’s history.

The ACTU’s role as a peak body is to be a national voice for our movement and defending and advancing workers’ rights by co-ordinating union campaigns, representing workers at a range of government and non-government forums and to provide industrial, policy and other support to our affiliates.

The role

The purpose of this role is to manage the financial elements of the ACTU to ensure revenue is generated in a way that appropriately manages risk, minimises costs and aligns with ACTU policy.

The Financial Controller works closely with the General Manager and the Finance team to ensure that the ACTU is proactively building its financial capacity to enact the policies of the ACTU Congress and Executive and manage cash flows that allow the ACTU Secretary to deliver on its operational and strategic priorities. With a broad and complex portfolio in their stewardship, the Financial Controller also puts in place measures to mitigate risks and ensures efficient cost controls are in place.

This position would be ideally suited to a driven Financial Controller or experienced Senior Accountant.

Key responsibilities

  • Development and implementation of approved financial management strategies.
  • Management and oversight of ACTU revenue projects outside daily operations.
  • Working with other ACTU staff on the creation and development of revenue streams.
  • Ensuring the achievement of stated financial goals associated with ACTU projects and investments.
  • Development and oversight of financial risk management strategies.
  • Implementation of efficiencies at an entity and organisational wide level.
  • Assisting in the development of cost control measures in the daily operations.
  • Oversight of contracting and purchasing arrangements to ensure a policy aligned approach to best value.

Benefits

The ACTU will offer the successful candidate a competitive salary, along with 15% superannuation.
