  • Part time contract role working with the peak body for the Australian union movement, supporting the Australian Trade Union Institute (ATUI) assist Australian unions to build their organisational strength and capabilities, via digital communications.

Our organisation

The Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) is the peak union body representing over 1.5 million workers and their families.

Since its creation in 1927, the ACTU has spearheaded some of the most fundamental workplace struggles in Australia’s history.

The ACTU’s role as a peak body is to be a national voice for our movement and defending and advancing workers’ rights by co-ordinating union campaigns, representing workers at a range of government and non-government forums and to provide industrial, policy and other support to our affiliates.

The role

Australia’s unions have pioneered worker-­focused education and training in this country. The ACTU continues this proud tradition today and works to ensure that union leaders, organisers, officials, and other staff are equipped with the skills and key learnings required to be the most effective representatives for working people possible.

This role will support the ATUI with its digital communications, to assist with promoting and supporting the work of the Institute. This involves content writing, editing, web content management, mass-emailing and email marketing, and SMS broadcasts.

Although this role is part of the ATUI, it will involve some collaboration with other specialist teams within the ACTU, including the Digital & Social Media Team, and Content & Creative Teams.

This position is based in Melbourne and part-time (0.6 EFT) position on a 2-year fixed-term position.

Key responsibilities

  • Create, edit and manage content for the ATUI website, social media presence and email marketing.
  • Support the educators and organisers within the ATUI with promoting courses, events and other activities.
  • Perform required administration and testing of the ATUI’s online platforms.
  • Monitor and report on content effectiveness, reach, engagement, and enrolment.
  • Create, and edit or update graphic design templates for the ATUI that are developed by the ACTU’s Content and Creative Team.

Key selection criteria

  • Demonstrated experience in developing and producing online digital content for social media and email, including copywriting.
  • Experience with online and social media analytics.
  • Tertiary qualifications in digital communications or media, marketing or similar.
  • Demonstrated skills in social media management.
  • Demonstrated highly developed research, writing, and editing skills in a digital environment, with the development of engaging online resources.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the values of the trade union movement.
