About the role

The role of Company Secretary will serve to support ACSO's Board and senior management on matters of corporate governance, Board operations, corporate decision making, and stakeholder and Board/management relations. The role will also encompass the overall management of ACSO's company secretariat, and includes:

  • Advise the Board and its Committees on governance matters and practice
  • Assist with the development, implementation, communication, and maintenance of compliance policies, processes and procedures
  • Assist with ensuring the company complies with its statutory and contractual obligations by providing advice to Directors and senior executives on discharging their duties under the Corporations Act 2012, the Australian Charities and Not for Profit Commission Act 2012 and other applicable regulations and policies
  • Ensure the timely lodgement of returns/filings required under all legislation, and maintenance of statutory and other registers
  • Liaise with ACSO's legal advisers and coordinate legal advice when required
  • Draft significant correspondence on behalf of the CEO, the Chair and the Board
  • Work with the Chair of ACSO's Board and Chairs of Board Committees to develop agenda for Board and Committee meetings.

We are looking for someone who will bring a strong belief in humanity and the basic right each of us has, to a second chance. You will be ethical, self-motivated, and committed to helping others achieve their goals.

  • Under-graduate or post-graduate law degree
  • Admitted and eligible to practice as a solicitor in the state of Victoria (or equivalent)
  • Membership of Governance Institute of Australia or equivalent relevant professional body (desirable)
  • Strong corporate governance and Board reporting experience
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to develop strong stakeholder relationships
  • Demonstrate the ability to work in a flexible and responsive manner in a changing environment;
  • A strong sense of personal accountability and resilience
  • The ability to obtain National Criminal Record and Working with Children Checks
  • A strong belief in humanity and the basic right each of us has to a second chance

What ACSO can offer you

  • Permanent part time position (0.6 FTE) available with a balance of working from home and working from our Richmond office
  • $110,000 base salary (at 0.6 FTE) + 9.5 % superannuation ($120,000 approx. package) + NFP salary packaging options (more after tax $ in your pocket!)
