The Digital Learning Experience Designer will develop first class learning solutions aligned to the College's learning and teaching plan and learning design framework. Essential to course design, this role will work with our product, innovation, learning and teaching and technology teams as well as Academics to provide ACAP students with digitally rich learning experiences. Navigating our platforms, the Digital Learning Experience Designer will work with subject matter experts to identify our students' needs to ensure the instructional graphics, user interface and finished product meet our accessibility and inclusivity standards.
Design
- Creation and implementation of design concepts that improve the appearance and functionality of all existing and new courses using evidence based approaches to support success for diverse learners
- Ensure learning is inclusive, authentic, flexible and responsive so it facilitates success for our students in preparation for professional careers
- Provide expert advice and guidance on areas associated with educational technologies and digital learning design
- Ensure assessment strategies that promote diverse learning approaches
- Create and implement a style guide for use by the Learning Design team
- Ensure the instructional graphics, user interface and finished product meet our accessibility and inclusivity standards by integrating multi-paced learning and avoiding cognitive overload.
Development
- Determine project scope and provide guidance to project teams to enable effective decision making and achievement of outcomes
- Partner with systems & reporting and IT teams to devise effective provisioning of integrated learning technologies
- Consult subject matter experts on informational foundations and best instructional methodology for learners
- Provide expert advice and guidance on instructional material needs, specifically media specialisation requirements
- Produce or review, edit and critique learning delivery materials and provide feedback to inform continuous improvement in learning and teaching practices
- Development of activities and instructions to enhance teaching, assessment and curriculum design skills of academic staff
Implementation
- Ensure finished product has incorporated NPIs design features, following the style guide, has seamless platform functionality and system integration, appropriate pacing options and assessment tools
- Consult with marketing graphic design team to ensure finished product meets the branding expectations and to align promotion and go live strategy
- Produce, publish and distribute print and online content to communicate with diverse audiences; deliver presentations
- Liaise with academic staff and provide guidance on application of delivery methodology and the set up and use of assessment tools
Stakeholder Relationships
- Develop and maintain effective partnerships with other teams impacting learning design within the College and across the C&I division
Core Competencies
- At least five (5) years' experience in designing and developing courses within Moodle
- A tertiary qualification in Education or equivalent
- Knowledge of adult learning principles and other notable learning design philosophies, strategies and theories, and the ability to apply those concepts
- Demonstrated experience developing courses that are accessible and inclusive
- Skills in design thinking, user experience design (UX), digital and blended learning design, instructional design, and eLearning authoring tools
- Ability to manage competing priorities, work under pressure and meet deadlines as well as high level verbal and written communication skills, particularly the ability to communicate complex technical concepts in layman's terms
- Demonstrated ability to produce complex documentation or reports as well as an advanced knowledge of O365 including Forms, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Excel with the ability to analyse and manipulate data using pivot tables
- Experience working with stakeholders such as innovation, learning and teaching and technology teams to create immersive learning resources and activities
- Passionate about the change that learning design and technology can bring to higher education, and enjoy working in a multi-disciplinary, fast-moving creative team
