ABOUT THIS ROLE

YWCA Australia is currently seeking a passionate Domestic and Family Violence Counsellor to join our Darwin Team. This role is offered on a full-time maximum term basis ending 30 June 2021 (flexible and part-time hours may be considered upon application) and is based in our Palmerston office.

The specialist Domestic Violence Counsellor will provide one-on-one and group-based counselling support to women experiencing domestic and family violence with the aim of improving women’s safety and wellbeing.

ABOUT YOU

The ideal applicant we are seeking will have:

  • Experience in domestic and family violence counselling
  • Relevant qualification in Psychology, Social Work or Counselling
  • Membership or eligibility for membership with a governing body such as PACFA, AASW or ACA
  • Thorough understanding and application of counselling theories and practices
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in providing quality counselling services or group work to domestic and family violence survivors
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with culturally diverse clients and co-workers
  • Previous experience undertaking a range of administrative duties, including maintaining detailed case notes, records and files
  • Demonstrated ability to develop cooperative working relationships with external agencies and providers to optimise client service delivery and referral as necessary
  • A high-level understanding of the responsibilities associated with working with all clients including confidentiality, duty of care, mandatory reporting, other relevant legislation and professional conduct
  • Able to manage own time to achieve key outcomes and use tools effectively to assist with planning and organising
  • This position will require the applicant to satisfactorily complete a national criminal history record check and hold the relevant state-based working with vulnerable persons permit prior to employment
