ABOUT THIS ROLE

YWCA Australia is currently seeking a passionate Aboriginal Teacher’s Assistant to join our Goonellabah Transition Program Team. This role is offered on a part time (14 hours per week) basis on a maximum term contract ending on 27 December 2022 and is based at Goonellabah Public School.

Goonellabah Transition Program (GTP) provides a play-based, early learning program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in the year before school. The program is delivered in Goonellabah Primary School and uses a ‘whole of family’ approach, partnering with parents and carers to foster a love of learning. Service providers including therapists, health specialists and children’s services work closely with the program to give children the skills needed for a successful transition into school, and to give families the information they need to succeed.

The Aboriginal Teacher’s Assistant is responsible for providing support to the GTP Coordinator to deliver the Ngulliboo Muggi (All of Us Strong) transition to school program. This involves supporting program delivery and classroom management, providing strong linkages between the Aboriginal Community and the GTP program, and supporting parents/carers as part of the GTP program.
