Youth Support + Advocacy Service (YSAS) is one of Australia’s largest and most comprehensive, youth specific community service organisation that enables young people experiencing serious disadvantage to access the resources and support they require to lead healthy and fulfilling lives.

About the position
Reconnect works closely with local identified schools requiring additional support to reduce the risk of homelessness within their students and families, providing educational support to staff, and one-one interventions for students. Reconnect workers use a range of interventions and strategies with a young person and their whole family, to deliver a timely intervention.
Examples of approaches typically used by Reconnect workers include assessment and goal setting, case management, referral, advocacy, counselling (individual and family), mediation, group work, outreach, practical support, brokerage, therapies (individual and family), collaboration with other services (specialists, community stakeholders and networks).
The Key Selection Criteria for this role are:
- Experience in working with young people with complex needs and problematic alcohol or other drug use in an outreach capacity especially issues place the young person at risk of homelessness.
- Experience in working with families using solution focused strategies or other appropriate family interventions / modalities including the ability to negotiate successful outcomes between young people and their families.
- Demonstrated understanding of therapeutic case management, care planning and review approaches. In addition to responding to crises and accessing other support services
- Highly developed engagement and communication skills and styles with young people and their families from a range of backgrounds (including cultural awareness) and age groups, including ability to model appropriate behaviours and motivate young people
- Demonstrated experience of participation in cooperative and collaborative work practices with other service providers, community groups, and schools, including well developed liaison and networking skills
