About the Role

Youth Projects is now on the hunt for a experienced ‘Youth AOD Outreach Clinician role is responsible for delivering a comprehensive range of individual counselling and case management support services to young people in the North West region experiencing a range of issues such as: substance abuse and misuse, housing breakdown, mental health & relationship issues.

The position is responsible for providing high quality, high impact support and therapeutic interventions to young people through:

  • Engaging clients in structured and semi-structured counselling sessions to reduce the client’s level of substance use, reduce the client’s high risk behaviours and experience of AOD related harm, improve physical and mental health, including emotional and psychological well-being
  • Undertaking triage, risk assessment and prioritisation to ensure some of our services’ most vulnerable clients are linked with the appropriate services to address the needs and barriers to health and housing outcome
  • Engage clients to improve health literacy to improve the client’s capacity to better understand and manage their own health and wellbeing:
  • Integration of care with the existing service system to ensure enhance service coordination and collaboration

Ideal candidate will possess

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work, Youth Work, Welfare Work and/or Community Development and at least two years’ experience in working with people with AOD issues.
  • Certificate IV in AOD or have completed the required AOD core-competencies (or able to complete within the first 6 months of employment)
  • Knowledge and understanding of homelessness, housing and health sectors (including mental health and AOD)
  • Wanting to grow, develop, and build a career with a progressive organisation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the drug and alcohol service system and the range of treatment options available.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in assessment, developing treatment plans, effective case management and client advocacy.
  • Understanding of the principles of harm minimization and approaches to the treatment of AOD problems including relapse prevention.
