About the Role

We are on the hunt for a vibrant Social Enterprise Café Manager to join our ever-growing social enterprise team at The Little Social (The Alfred) on a full time, 12-month contract. Our Social Enterprise Coordinator will work closely with our Social Enterprise Leader to be the central point of contact for the day-to-day oversight of our new café at the Alfred Hospital.

Our ideal person will co-ordinate and inspire our team of café changemakers to provide and deliver the highest levels of customer and hospitality service at The Little Social. You will also supervise and provide hands-on mentoring to young people participating in our trainee program to build their self-confidence, barista and customer service skills and employability qualities.

The Little Social Alfred is be a bespoke coffee bar that brews the finest espresso, serves nutritious food and empowers young people to lead meaningful lives by providing hands-on skills development and mentoring from industry experts. Each young person will have a platform to build self-confidence, gain key employability skills and genuine work experience in a supportive and judgement free environment.

What you'll bring:

This is a unique role and we need you to be able to demonstrate experience in the following areas:

  • 3+ years Hospitality and/or Barista experience (management skills desirable)
  • Passion for mentoring and developing the next generation of young people in the workforce
  • A dedication to community development and social justice principles
  • Exceptional customer service and communication skills
  • Team-first approach
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, inclusive of all people and all abilities
  • Proven ability to meet targets
  • Self-motivated and able to work autonomously

Must Have’s

  • Food Safety Supervisor Certificate (a must have!)
  • Valid Passport/Australian Working Rights
  • Police Check
  • Working with children’s check
  • Possess a passion for service excellence
  • Be team orientated, positive and ready to roll up your sleeves
  • Excellent degree of motivation, initiative and time management skills
  • Wanting to grow, develop, and build a career with a progressive organisation.

Youth Projects is an Australian-based independent, registered charity who recognise the complex and varying needs of our clients and offer a holistic model of care and provide pathways into our award winning employment, education and social enterprise programs. Located at two sites (Hosier Lane and the vibrant, northern region of Melbourne) Youth Projects provides front line support to individuals experiencing disadvantage, unemployment, homelessness, alcohol and other drug issues and young people looking to re-engage with learning and employment.
