About the Role

Youth Projects is now on the lookout for a dynamic, Part Time - 30 hours per week, ‘Dual Diagnosis Counsellor'. This role will form part of the Parallel Pathways Substance Misuse team at the Living Room Primary Health service and takes a leadership role within the team to provide line supervision, practice reflection and program development opportunities.

As this is a unique role you will have demonstrated in past:

  • Provide comprehensive AOD assessments and short-term case management to assist clients who either experiencing or at risk of homelessness
  • Engaging clients in structured and semi-structured counselling sessions to reduce the client’s level of substance use, reduce the client’s high-risk behaviours and experience of AOD related harm, improve physical and mental health, including emotional and psychological well-being
  • Conduct assertive clinical outreach (where appropriate) to engage and assess people sleeping rough in Melbourne’s CBD
  • Ensure high-quality care coordination processes for people engaged through the program interventions with a focus on linkages with Living Room services and programs
  • Proving secondary consultation across the multi-disciplinary team and to external services where appropriate
  • Engage clients to improve health literacy to improve the client’s capacity to better understand and manage their own health and wellbeing
  • Integration of care with the existing service system to ensure enhance service coordination and collaboration

Ideal candidate will possess

  • Appropriate qualifications in health or allied health fields (such as social work, psychology and counselling)
  • Minimum 3 years direct experience with mental health/AOD sectors and treatment provision working with clients with multiple and complex needs
  • Knowledge and understanding of homelessness, housing and health sectors (including mental health and AOD)
  • Advanced knowledge of the Alcohol and Other Drug service system and processes
  • Assessment, clinical interventions and treatment modalities
  • Demonstrated organisational skills within a multidisciplinary service environment
  • Demonstrated experience in undertaking assessment and successfully supported referrals
