Youth Insearch is a peer-based program supporting young people helping young people. Empowering young people aged 14 to 20 to turn their disadvantages into their advantages, enabling them to reach their full potential. The program consists of individual support, weekly support groups and weekend workshops. Youth Insearch has partnered with Chinchilla State High School and Tara Secondary College and together will manage the Youth Insearch Social Worker role primarily within the Chinchilla State High School community for 2 days a week and 1 day a week working in Tara.

Youth Insearch is seeking an energetic Social Worker to work with young people in the school environment. Providing individual coordinated care, embedding the Youth Insearch peer support program within the school and within the community.

You will operate in an advisory and advocacy role with some case management practice providing professional discipline specific services to students, their families and carers for the purpose of assisting student’s educational outcomes.

You will facilitate engagement of the Youth Insearch Program with students and work to support individual and families using both the Youth Insearch peer support program and a case management model.

Selection Criteria

  • Bachelor or Masters Degree in Social Work (including eligibility for membership of Australian Association of Social Workers, or willingness to work towards membership)
  • Experience in providing evidence-based therapeutic interventions with children, young people and their families
  • Knowledge of issues affecting young people and families and current approaches to assist well-being, supporting recovery, and building relationships and resilience
  • Demonstrated commitment to working within a child safety framework that is person-centred and family-focused
  • Excellent relationship-building skills to maintain effective stakeholder relationships with schools and community interagency partners
  • Proven experience and ability to respond appropriately in crisis situations and to students presenting with complex needs
  • Intermediate computer literacy skills, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook and simple databases
  • Unrestricted drivers licence and access to a motor vehicle with full comprehensive insurance
