About our Service:

Based in an idyllic rural setting in North Richmond, San Miguel family residential service provides intensive, individualised support to vulnerable young parents and their children. San Miguel is a unique service that plays a critical role in keeping children safe and well and keeping young families together. Parents and children receive support from a multi-disciplinary team through a combination of on-site and community based interventions that ensure children are engaged in safe, developmentally appropriate activities and their parents are supported to set and pursue family and personal goals.

Our family preservation model is one of a kind in Australia, we have the ability to be creative in how we work with families, we exist to meet the complex needs of children living with significant risks and aim to transform the lives of young parents and children. For us it is about the children and families and not about the numbers.

About the position:

The Outreach Case Worker provides case management for young families who have recently transitioned out of the Family Centre into independent housing. You will:

  • Support families to keep themselves and their children safe
  • Provide support to establish ongoing links to local community services and support networks
  • Assist families to continue to develop the life skills learnt and to maintain their housing tenancy

About you:

You will have a strong case management background and experience working in child protection and working with vulnerable families with complex needs. You will demonstrate:

  • Degree level qualifications in a human services discipline and a minimum of three (3) years casework experience in working with families with complex needs and vulnerabilities, or a diploma level qualification and a minimum of five (5) years relevant experience
  • Demonstrated ability to apply relevant theoretical, legislative and policy requirements in the context of child protection and an understanding of mandatory reporting requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to assess risk in relation to child safety and apply evidence based approaches
  • An understanding of trauma , strength based practice and child/client centred approaches
  • High level of interpersonal and written skills with a demonstrated ability to communicate and engage with children and young people and their families
  • Experience working with families from diverse backgrounds with an array of complex social and family issues
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team as well as ability to work independently
  • Ability to work under pressure and highly developed planning and time management skills
