About the service:

Based in an idyllic rural setting in North Richmond, San Miguel family residential service provides intensive, individualised support to vulnerable young parents and their children. San Miguel is a unique service that plays a critical role in keeping children safe and well and keeping young families together. Parents and children receive support from a multi-disciplinary team through a combination of on-site and community based interventions that ensure children are engaged in safe, developmentally appropriate activities and their parents are supported to set and pursue family and personal goals.

About the role:

The Family Support Worker provides practical support to young parents and their children to assist them to maintain a safe and positive environment. This includes:

  • Supporting young parents in evening activities such as meal preparation, feeding, settling and sleep routines
  • Providing assistance and advice when children are unwell
  • Transporting families to and from the centre when required
  • Supporting young parents with the demands of their young children and managing independent living

This is a casual position so you will need to have flexibility to work hours across a seven day, 24 hour service including possible overnight shifts. At times, you may be called in to work at short notice to cover staff leave etc.

About you:

You will have certificate level qualifications in a relevant field or be studying towards a Diploma or Bachelor level qualification. We are interested in hearing from you if you have:

  • Demonstrated ability in working with children and young people with complex needs and to support them in challenging situations
  • Excellent child protection skills and the ability to assess risk and act accordingly
  • You must be able to keep calm in a crisis, work unsupervised and have practical problem solving skills
