Our Family Mental Health Support Service (Starfish Program) provides free early intervention and support to vulnerable families with children and young people who are showing early signs of, or are at risk of developing, mental illness.

We are seeking a Child, Youth and Family Counsellor to deliver and evaluate individual, family and group responses that provide early intervention and therapeutic support to children and young people, and their families early in a situation where mental health risk factors may be emerging. Based at our Kingston site, the Starfish team deliver counselling, case management, and group workshops to eligible children, young people and their families, via an outreach model.

You will provide assessment and counselling interventions within a strengths-based, client centred, trauma informed, and culturally sensitive framework for children and young people aged 0-18 years and their families. This includes targeted outreach counselling services and interventions using a range of therapeutic modalities, group workshops, and community education programs.

This is a part time position until 30 June 2021.

About you:

In addition to a relevant Bachelor degree qualification, candidates must have direct experience in providing assessment and therapy with children, young people and their families. You will be eligible for professional registration with the Australian Counselling Association; Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia; or other relevant body. You will be able to demonstrate commitment to the principles of client-centered practice and professional ethical standards. Underpinned by strengths based, trauma, attachment, and systemic frameworks. You will have demonstrated skills in clinical assessment, case formulation and planning, therapeutic interventions, and capacity to provide culturally appropriate counseling responses to clients.
