Child Development Specialist - Early Childhood Development Program

yourtown

The Early Childhood Development (ECD) program was successfully pioneered 2 years ago in Northern Adelaide. It is a wholly yourtown funded program designed to trial place-based, highly collaborative strategies for ensuring vulnerable pre-school aged children reach physical, emotional, cognitive, and social developmental milestones, and transition to school successfully.

The Program works with parents/caregivers to improve the early learning of children who exhibit indicators of developmental and cognitive learning barriers. Individual support is delivered within yourtown’s Case Management Framework, which works with the parent/caregiver, family or child to systematically identify need through assessment, and through setting and reviewing goals. It is a free service with which clients engage voluntarily.

As the Child Development Specialist you will provide assessments and specialist developmental and learning support to children, and support their parents/caregivers in understanding and meeting the child’s development and needs. This includes reviewing assessments to determine appropriate therapeutic interventions, providing qualified referrals and providing expressive therapy to children presenting with significant and complex concerns.

About you:

You will have demonstrated child development expertise and experience working with children and families with complex needs in a trauma informed practice framework. You will have a Bachelor qualification in Early Childhood Development, Psychology or the equivalent and significant experience in providing specialist early childhood development interventions. You will be skilled in using a range of expressive therapy modalities, especially with children aged 2.5 – 6 years. Working within professional boundaries, you have demonstrated ability to build strong rapport and foster positive relationships with children and families.

For the right candidate, this position can be offered on either a part time or full time basis.
