We are looking for Peer Support professionals to join our growing organisation on a permanent basis. The newly operational Carer Gateway facilitates peer support groups to Carers in Northern and Western Sydney. Many people do not see themselves as a carer but a carer can be anyone, and of any age, who looks after someone with a disability, mental illness, medical condition or is older or frail aged.

The Peer Support role is to deliver effective, in-person and online peer support for carers. This consists of facilitating group sessions in which carers meet to share their experiences, learn from one another, and develop networks to help support and connect with one another.

The Peer Support role requires lived experience as a carer.

About You:

• Lived experience as a Carer is essential.
• Certificate IV (or working towards) or a degree in a related field and/or experience working within the ageing or disability sectors.
• Previous experience facilitating peer support groups.
• Personal knowledge and experience of region specific health services, formal and informal community networks and primary health services.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the needs of older people and/or people with a disability, and their carers.
• Ability to share relevant lived experiences to develop trust and rapport.
• Personal insight into the impact of stigma and the subsequent effect this has for individuals, families and the broader community.
• Level of awareness and empathy to work with groups that may challenge your ethical opinions and values.

Flexibility

We are hiring for multiple roles on a full-time and part-time basis. During COVID restrictions, we are supporting employees to work from home, however this role will be office based at our Chatswood office once restrictions are lifted.
