The Queensland Council of Unions (QCU) is the peak body for unions in Queensland and advocates for the interests of Queensland workers. The Young Workers Hub (YWH) is an education, support and campaigning organisation for Queensland workers under 30 years of age.

About the Young Workers Hub:

The Young Workers Hub (YWH) is run for young workers, by young workers. The YWH outreach organiser educates and empowers young workers to have the knowledge and tools to deal with wage theft, bullying, harassment or unsafe work. The YWH outreach organiser also supports young workers to run campaigns important to them, such as making wage theft a crime and advocating for secure work. 

  • The position is based at the QCU in Brisbane, Queensland.
  • Date: Commencing Jan 2020 
  • Job Type: Ongoing; Part time
  • Pay: Attractive base salary, dependent on experience plus 15% superannuation
  • Manager: Michael Clifford (QCU Secretary) and Imogen Barker (YWH Co-Director)

Duties for this role include:

  • Liaising with education providers and youth organisations
  • Visiting groups of young people to deliver workplace rights training
  • Assisting young workers with general information
  • Working with activists on campaigns
  • Event and logistics planning
  • Other duties as required

Skills & experience:

  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • An understanding of issues affecting young workers
  • Demonstrated team work
  • Computer literacy and ability to learn new programs
  • Legal interest or training

Selection criteria:

  • A strong commitment to youth advocacy and workers’ rights
  • Campaigning and strategic planning experience
  • Willingness to learn and help others
  • Current Driver’s License
