Redress Counsellor - Albany

Yorgum Healing Services
  • Albany
  • Fixed Term, Full Time

Aboriginal people are strongly encouraged to apply.

Yorgum was established in 1991 by a group of Aboriginal women, some of whom worked in women’s refuges, who were  concerned about the lack of appropriate counselling support for Aboriginal people experiencing spiritual, emotional and psychological pain. They founded a service with a ‘healing’ approach rather than an ongoing, crisis-driven ‘patch-up’ approach.

Yorgum offers all Aboriginal people and their families autonomous, community-based healing services that are culturally secure, trauma-informed and work within an Aboriginal Family Worldview.

The Role:

This position provides services for Aboriginal people affected by their involvement with the Royal Commission investigating institutional responses to child sexual abuse.

Essential Criteria:

To be considered for the role, you will be able to demonstrate the following experience and abilities:

  1. Tertiary qualification in Psychology/Social Work or a Diploma in Counselling.
  2. Demonstrated ability to work holistically with Aboriginal clients.
  3. Demonstrated experience with case management, including conceptual and analytical skills.
  4. Demonstrated experience and relevant exposure in working with child sexual abuse, family violence and associated psychological issues.
  5. Demonstrated ability to engage and build strong working relationships with clients and relevant stakeholders.
  6. Demonstrated organisational and time management skills.

  8. Be able to travel as required.
