Yoo-rrook has been established as an independent Royal Commission under the Inquiries Act 2014. It will focus on truth-telling and healing for First Peoples, by inquiring into historic and ongoing systemic injustices perpetrated against First Peoples in Victoria by State and non-State entities since colonisation until today. Yoo-rrook is the first Aboriginal truth-telling body to be established in Australia.

Reporting to the Director and working collaboratively across Yoo-rrook, this position will provide strategically aligned and values-based communications strategies, initiatives, and advice across the Commission. This creative position will play a key part in delivering on Yoo-rrook’s truth telling objectives and will be constantly seeking new and different ways of doing things.

With a deep understanding and affinity with First Peoples this position will produce and oversee engaging communications across multiple platforms ensuring Yoo-rrook’s mandate is communicated articulately and with a strong spirit.

This is a fixed-term role until 30 June 2024.

ABOUT YOU

You will help to form and deliver the unique voice of Yoo-rrook. You will have previous experience leading and delivering strategic communications campaigns using integrated and creative ways to engage with your target audience.

Working within a start-up environment, you will be comfortable with ambiguity with a passion for storytelling and lifting the voices of Indigenous communities. You will have worked within Aboriginal led organisations or communities and will have an understanding of cultural safety and inclusive workplaces.
