Youth Development Coordinator

The Youth Development Coordinator position exists to maximise the positive social impact that YMCA Canberra has on young people, and includes both frontline youth work and work in an office environment.

The Youth Development Coordinator will lead the delivery of programs at the YMCA Youth Space (a collaboration with Anglicare NSW South, NSW East & ACT), including drop-in and case management. The position holds responsibility for the efficient coordination of all aspects of the Youth Space operation, including staffing, programming, risk management, outcomes measurement and stakeholder engagement.

Additionally, the Youth Development Coordinator will play a key role in the development of new youth programs and coordinate other specified youth programs, including a work experience program for students with intellectual disability and a literacy program for teenagers.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to achieving the best outcomes for young people, a history of effective program management, and the capacity to build effective relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.

The successful applicant will have the following:

  • Current Drivers Licence
  • Working with Vulnerable People Card
  • First Aid
  • Certificate IV in Youth Work (minimum)
  • Relevant Tertiary qualifications (desirable)

Selection Criteria:

  • Demonstrated understanding of key issues effecting young people and experience in dealing with these issues effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee the development, coordination, implementation, evaluation and management of programs for young people.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with young people, families, community groups, government agencies, service providers, businesses and schools.
  • Experience working with a diverse range of young people in youth centres or similar contexts.
