About the job

  • Role location: Jimboomba
  • Role type: Maximum term part-time 72 hours fortnight/ 9-day fortnight until 30 June 2021
  • Pay range: $83,046 – $86,805 a year (pro rata) based on experience, with salary sacrificing available

We are looking for a Children’s Counsellor to join YFS’ Domestic and Family Violence Service (servicing Beaudesert and surrounding areas). You will have a deep passion for working with children to build their self-esteem, understand their feelings and learn new ways to express them.

In this job, you’ll work with children experiencing and/ or witnessing domestic and family violence to develop strategies to improve their safety and minimise the negative impacts of their experiences. You will provide advocacy, attachment-based counselling, trauma informed interventions, initial and ongoing assessment of the child’s development and liaise with schools / other services involved with the family. Through your work you will improve parental and sibling relationships and attachment which includes joint work with mother’s.

You will:

  • demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the issues affecting women and children including evidence in practice of your understanding of gendered base violence
  • be confident, competent, and able to work fast while prioritising the safety of our clients
  • be a team player.
