Our vision and values
Building independence and participation.

Since 1983 we have been building people’s capacity to live independently and participate in our local community through a range of initiatives and services. These include a social enterprise that builds employment prospects; programs that help homeless people get into long-term housing and initiatives to reduce the prevalence of domestic and family violence.
Vision for reconciliation
YFS’ vision for reconciliation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples is to develop and provide services based on respect and understanding. YFS acknowledges the past and works to build independence, participation and closing the unacceptable gap between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and other Australians’ health and wellbeing.
YFS Ltd is a company limited by guarantee. It has sound governance processes in place. Financial and asset base is $12M. Refer to www.yfs.org.au for YFS’ most recent Impact Report and 2018/19 Financial Report.
The YFS Board of Directors provides governance and strategic leadership to position the organisation for future growth and maximum impact. Directors benefit from mentoring and professional development opportunities. Director positions are voluntary; however reasonable travel expenses are reimbursed and membership to the AICD. Directors are appointed for two years with eligibility for re-election.
The current YFS Board is made up of Directors with skills, qualifications and experience in governance, financial, risk management, legal, cultural and not-for-profit experience. Refer to YFS website for an overview of our current Directors.
YFS is seeking a Board Chair who will champion YFS’ purpose and strategic direction and YFS’ work in creating sustainable change in the lives of vulnerable people.
