The Youth Disability Advocacy Network Inc. (YDAN) is Western Australia’s peak organisation for young people with disabilities. YDAN operates primarily as a human rights organisation that seeks to address the exclusion of young people with disability in a rapidly changing society. YDAN is becoming widely acknowledged as a leader in the field of current youth participation and advocacy and has received awards to this effect.

The mission of YDAN is to promote and advance the human rights and freedoms of young people with disabilities. We strive to be the leading voice and body of young people with disabilities in Western Australia, ensuring they are respected, valued, and listened to in all aspects of life. We hope to empower young people and create a future that is just, and free from discrimination.

PROJECTS

The Project Manager will be responsible for overseeing four YDAN projects. These will include the Disability Empowerment Project (DEP), UNLEASHED 2021, Project AIM (Access and Inclusion Matters), and Employ-Ability. 

THE ROLE

The YDAN Project Manager is a position of a 12-month duration on a 0.8FTE basis, and will be under Level 5.1 of the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010. Contract has a possibility for extension dependent upon the securement of further funding.

The role of the YDAN Project Manager is to:

  • Undertake project management, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of designated projects, including their associated administrative requirements, as per their respective grant agreements that have been awarded, and in response to the needs of YDAN and its strategic direction;
  • Manage a team of project officers and project support officers, including working with these staff members to ensure their projects are running on time and on budget, address any problems that arise, and help grow best practices;
  • Collect, analyse and interpret data and other contextual information;
  • Assist in the preparation of reports, briefings and other documentation;
  • Liaise with both internal and external stakeholders to develop, implement and report on project initiatives;
  • Assist with the development of YDAN as an organisation; and
  • Other duties as required.

SELECTION CRITERIA

The following selection criteria are identified as being required to achieve the outcomes in the context of this position. Applicants will need to provide evidence of their capacity to transfer their knowledge and skills to achieving the outcomes of this position.

  1. Demonstrated developed project management skills, including project planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation and an ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  2. Demonstrated experience in managing projects budgets.
  3. Demonstrated experience in managing other staff members, including assisting with their training and development.
  4. Demonstrated highly developed presentation skills, including experience in the preparation of reports, briefing and other documentation to support and inform a variety of audiences.
  5. Demonstrated highly developed communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a diverse range of stakeholders, particularly diverse communities.
  6. Lived experience and a sound understanding of current issues for young people with disability is highly desirable.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Employees will be required to obtain a current National Police History Check and Working with Children Check (WWCC) prior to commencement of employment.
  • A class C driver's license is required.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Qualification(s) in project management or professional project methodology experience or experience attained through previous appointments, services and/or study of an equivalent level of expertise and/or experience to undertake the range of activities required.
  • Experience with high-level project decision-making and documentation.
  • Experience in working with or developing tools and procedures that coordinate logistics and teamwork across multiple projects - e.g. customer relationship management (CRM) tools.
  • Experience working with young people or people with disability is highly desirable.
