Project Co-Designers

Youth Disability Advocacy Network Inc.

Young people – get paid for your opinions!

YDAN is looking for the input and experience of young people with disability to join our Co-Design Intensive for the Disability Empowerment Project.

About Us

The Youth Disability Advocacy Network Inc. (YDAN) is Western Australia’s peak organisation for young people with disabilities, seeking to address the exclusion of young people with disability in a rapidly changing society.

We strive to be the leading voice of Young People with Disabilities (YPWD) in WA, ensuring they are respected, valued, and listened to in all aspects of life.

The Project

By virtue of age, YPWD are more likely to be disadvantaged in many areas than other people with disability. The added barrier of discrimination based on age, results in YPWD not having their views listened to and extreme difficulty when trying to self-advocate.

The Disability Empowerment Project (DEP) will build the individual capacity of YPWD in Western Australia to establish autonomy over their lives through training that develops their self-advocacy skills.

The Role

You will share your thoughts, opinions, and lived experiences with our workshop facilitators to help us tailor self-advocacy training solutions relevant to YPWD. This will occur across a series of co-design 'intensive' workshops running fortnightly from June 2021.

You will receive a sitting fee of $25 per hour (across up to 5 workshops and 10 hours all up) and there may be small items of volunteer work requested of you outside of the workshop hours.

Requirements

Successful applicants will meet all following criteria:

  1. aged between 12 to 25 years,
  2. identify as having a disability,
  3. can attend the workshops in person, and
  4. have availability for one meeting per fortnight starting June 2021.

Workshops will be held at Foyer Oxford, 196 Oxford St, Leederville WA 6007. Exact timing of workshops will be negotiated with successful applicants.

Why Should You Apply?

Build your understanding of self-advocacy.

Opportunity to demonstrate peer leadership.

Skills development will build your resume/professional portfolio (references can be provided).

Use your experience as YPWD to be a voice for others who can’t yet be heard.

YDAN values youth participation and youth leadership in all endeavours; we believe that people have great capacity to achieve great things. Work with us to make these great things happen!
