About Youth Activating Youth
YAY was established by youth and community leaders to offer support to marginalised disadvantaged youth consistently falling through the cracks. YAY is a non-profit organisation that assists disadvantaged multicultural Australian youth to re-engage with their communities.
YAY aims to bridge the gap that currently exists between different government organisations, non-profit agencies and other service providers. Since 2014, YAY has grown from a youth-led committee into a not-for-profit organisation with a diverse and multidisciplinary board and a committed team.
Position Objective
The Youth Project Coordinator is responsible for the coordination and delivery of YAY’s community safety project – Drop the Knife, Save a Life. The Youth Project Coordinator works closely with the Head of Programs, Leadership Officer and external partners in the delivery of this project.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide coordination of project plan deliverables, ensuring smooth delivery of project objectives
- Oversight and management of YAY’s Youth Network
- Management of relationship with key project partners
- Stakeholder management and liaison with service providers, community leaders and young people across North-West Metropolitan Melbourne
- The facilitation of workshops, capacity building and outreach sessions
- The distribution and collation of project evaluations methodologies
- Coordination of communications, including ongoing social media campaigns
- Event coordination and logistics
- Support the development of project materials, overseeing the design and production
- Delivery of outreach to community following the development of campaign materials
- Advocacy and presenting to key Government Departments, Council’s and service providers about the project
Selection Criteria
Knowledge and Experience:
- Qualification and/or related experience in Community Development
- High level project management skills with demonstrated experience in leading and delivering projects on time and within budget
- Excellent time management and organisational skills including accurate, comprehensive and up to date record keeping
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with staff and volunteers; ability to adapt and be flexible, working in community settings
- Demonstrated effective negotiation and analytical problem-solving skills to navigate complex political and social environments
- Current First Aid Certificate/Current Police Checks/WWC
- Strong level of written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
- Undertake tasks with efficiently and effectively
- Ability to build supportive professional relationships and strong rapport with stakeholders
- Ability to liaise with internal and external stakeholders
Desirable:
- Experience working with multicultural youth or in a similar setting
- Demonstrated experience working with people in complex environments including those relating to complex trauma
