Organisational Environment

YAY was established by youth and community leaders to offer support to marginalised disadvantaged youth consistently falling through the cracks. YAY is a non-profit organisation that assists disadvantaged multicultural Australian youth to re-engage with their communities. YAY aims to bridge the gap that currently exists between different government organisations, non-profit agencies and other service providers. Since 2014, YAY has grown from a youth-led committee into a not-for-profit organisation with a diverse and multidisciplinary board and a committed team.

Position Objective

The Programs Support will work closely with the Head of Programs in the, development, implementation and evaluation of the initiatives undertaken under the Programs portfolio.

The Programs Support will:

Support the collection and analysis of data under YAY’s initiatives delivered during the life of the project

Provide leadership in ensuring the relevant policies and procedures are followed as part of YAY’s provision of services

Build partnerships with community agencies and relevant stakeholders

Understand and acknowledge the duty of confidentiality to ensure they will not at any time disclose to any unauthorised person confidential information of the employing organisation that comes to their knowledge during the course of their employment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the collection and analysis of data under YAY’s initiatives delivered by the Programs team.
  • Provide leadership in ensuring the relevant policies and procedures are followed as part of YAY’s provision of services
  • Support the development of client centred program planning and implement activity programs.
  • Support the Head of Programs to manage, recruit and appraise staff volunteers and students on placement to deliver social support services to meet the identified needs of participants.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with service providers, community stakeholders, funding bodies and relevant networks to identify partnership arrangements to increase social support options to meet the goals of clients.
  • Support the Head of Programs to identify and implement continuous improvement and development opportunities and issues impacting on the Programs team.
  • Treat all clients and community members with respect and equality, whilst being responsive to their needs.

  • Support the provision of responsive services, activities and projects
  • Exercise independent judgement and problem solving skills
  • Understand and observe the Risk Management Policy and related procedures.
  • Undertakes all responsibilities and duties in a manner that ensures that the integrity and quality of the service is maintained
  • Ensures compliance with all aspects of Council policy including, Incident Reporting Policy, Risk Management, Occupational Health & Safety, Records Management, Equal Opportunity, Human Rights and HACC Quality Standards at all times.
  • Maintain confidentiality on all issues relating to the organisation, the clients and fellow colleagues, treating all clients and community members with respect and equality, whilst being responsive to their needs.
  • Support Program Officers, including providing advice and direction to staff and decisions regarding the programs operations.

Selection Criteria

Skills and Attributes:

  • A friendly, positive and professional attitude in dealing with clients and staff, including good verbal/written communication.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy skills, including the Microsoft suite.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Relevant Qualifications and / or experience in the Community Services sector
  • Experience in the development, coordination and evaluation of group programmes and activities.
  • Demonstrated experience working with multicultural communities
  • Experience managing multiple stakeholders
  • Experience supervising staff or volunteers
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to be adaptable and to learn new skills quickly
