Yalari (meaning “child” in Birri Gubba) is a national not-for-profit organisation offering high quality secondary education scholarships at leading boarding schools for Indigenous children from regional, rural and remote communities. Since 2005, Yalari has provided scholarships to hundreds of children from 189 communities, along with a comprehensive student support and development program, and a post-school pathways program to ensure students have the best opportunity for success. In 2020, there are 210 students on scholarships in 20 partner schools around Australia and a growing alumni of over 350 future leaders.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated Grant Writer / Prospect Researcher to systematically grow our revenue from philanthropic, corporate and government grants, and to work with the extended Yalari team to identify and research a range of high value funding opportunities.

You will be responsible for preparing and submitting outstanding applications for all eligible grants; and producing high quality impact reports and acquittals for all grants received.

As a key member of the Philanthropy and Fundraising Team, you will generate revenue from grants to fund our programs and identify and research high-value prospects for sponsorships, partnerships and major gifts.

With 45 new students embarking on their Yalari scholarships in 2021, there is no better time to start.

To succeed in this role, you’ll be strategic thinker and researcher with experience and a track record of achievements in a similar role. You’ll be an exceptional writer and editor used to consulting widely and meeting deadlines with high quality applications. And you’ll be a collaborative team player and a positive influence on team culture with a passion for achieving equality through education for Indigenous children.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role, with relevant qualifications in a related field
  • Successful track record of achieving targets in grant funding or other high value fundraising programs
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills and experience with grant or proposal writing and impact reporting
  • Passion for research, analytics and insights
  • Commitment to philanthropy and best practice in fundraising and grant writing
  • Superior time management, organisational and project management skills
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills
