Services include acute and general care, chronic disease, Women’s & Children health, men’s health, alcohol and other drugs, social and emotional wellbeing and client support services.

about the role

The role of the Mental Health Professional is to manage the delivery of primary clinical mental health service in a manner that aligns with the purpose of the relevant funding agreement and in accordance with the program guidelines and community/ client needs to improve outcomes for clients in early intervention, treatment and management of mental health and alcohol and drug issues.

The role requires the delivery of a high level of mental health services to clients and is responsible for actively contributing to the delivery of culturally appropriate social and wellbeing activities that incorporate community development, engagement and clinical components. The Case Load will include complex clients which will require you to have counselling experience, understanding of community dynamics, and be prepared to work with family members while supporting your clients. You will need to have experience working with young mothers, youths and adults while identifying other service providers for support.

There is a requirement to coordinate Care Team Meetings between service providers involved with your clients while working within the SEWB Team and other Community Services Programs. You will need to have a high level of understanding of Generational Trauma, the ongoing impacts of colonisation and the clash of cultures that impacts on Community members. You will be required to work from a strength-based therapeutic model while reporting directly to SEWB Coordinator.

The successful applicant will need to demonstrate:

  • Degree in Psychology, Mental Health or Social Work or equivalent Tertiary qualification
  • Minimum of five (5) years' experience in the provision of mental health assessment, treatment and rehabilitation methods.
  • Registration to practice as a Registered Mental Health Nurse (AHPRA)/ Social Worker AASW or eligibility for practising membership of the AASW
