About Us

Wurli-Wurlinjang Health Service is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation delivering primary and clinical health care services to the Aboriginal people in Katherine and surrounding communities. Wurli prides itself on delivering a range of health and wellbeing services to the community in a style and manner that makes clients feel welcome and comfortable. Services include acute and general care, chronic disease, Women’s & Children health, men’s health, alcohol and other drugs, social and emotional wellbeing and client support services.

The Wurli Social and Emotional Well Being (SEWB) team aims to achieve better outcomes in early intervention, treatment and management of mental health for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people through an integrated approach in a primary health care setting. The SEWB project is designed to deliver intervention service, prevention and promotion of social and emotional healthy lifestyles.

An example of the duties to be performed include:

  • As the first point of contact for all clients for SEWB services, ensure that respect, friendliness, professionalism and confidentiality are demonstrated on all occasion involving client contact and interaction
  • Build and maintains client relationships based on trust and support
  • To bring high-level cultural capital, authority and authenticity to the SEWB team and its services
  • Deliver the intake and allocation process. Processing of the referrals from all internal services and other external parties; this will include but is not limited to
    • Assessment of potential client referrals in accordance with policy
    • Complete intake assessment in accordance with standards
    • Accept referrals and coordinate the delivery of services
    • Monitor any "walk-in" traffic and ensure the appropriate services/referrals or advice is provided
    • Ensure Risk Assessment have been provided by the referrer

Applicants must be able to demonstrate:

  • Degree in Counselling, Psychology, Mental Health or equivalent Tertiary qualification
  • Minimum two (2) years' experience in an intake role that incorporated client liaison, education, advocacy, assessment and support or similar.
  • A Service user focus: Committed to and acts for the wellbeing of all service users (internal and external)
  • An ability to adhere to confidentiality and privacy principles of client information and files
  • Organised
  • Sound knowledge of and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Culture
  • Current National Police Records Check and Working with Children’s Clearance
  • Current Northern Territory Driver’s License
