Wunan Foundation is a leading Aboriginal development organisation based in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. Its purpose is to ensure that Aboriginal people enjoy the capabilities and opportunities necessary to make positive choices that lead to independent, fulfilling lives.

Wunan manages the Child and Parent Centre in the Kununurra and is seeking to employ a Coordinator.

Key Duties

Lead and coordinate the team at the child and parent centre, ensuring the delivery of high-quality programs and services that support the development and well-being of children and families in the community.

Essential Criteria:

1.Team Leadership:

  • Supervise and support staff members, fostering a positive and collaborative team environment.
  • Conduct regular team meetings to provide guidance, share information, and promote professional development. 

2. Program Management:

  • Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of educational and support programs for children and families.
  • Ensure programs meet the needs of the community and align with best practices in early childhood education and family support. 

3. Family Engagement:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with families, encouraging their active participation in centre activities and programs.
  • Address family concerns and feedback, ensuring a responsive and inclusive approach to
    service delivery. 

4. Collaboration and Partnerships:

  • Work collaboratively with community organisations, schools, and service provider to enhance program offerings and support for families.
  • Represent the centre at community meetings and events to advocate for the needs of children and families. 

5. Administrative Oversight:

  • Ensure compliance with relevant policies, regulations, and funding requirements.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports, budgets, and grant applications as needed.
  • Enter, update, and maintain data in organisational systems, spreadsheets, and digital records.

6. Professional Development:

  • Identify training and development needs for staff and facilitate opportunities for professional growth
  • Stay informed about current trends and best practices in early childhood education and family services.

Requirements of the role

  1. Relevant qualification in Early Childhood Education, Social Work, Community Development, or a related field.
  2. Proven experience in a leadership or supervisory role within an educational or community setting.
  3. Strong understanding of early childhood development and family support principles. 

Skills and Attributes:

  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively engage with families, staff, and community stakeholders.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to manage challenges effectively.

Working Conditions:

  • This position may require some flexibility in hours, including evenings or weekends for family engagement activities.
  • The role involves both indoor and outdoor work in various settings within the centre 

Pre-employment requirements

  • Satisfactory Criminal History Check (not older than 6 months)
  • Current Working with children clearance
  • Current Australian unrestricted ‘C’ class Driver’s license
