Law Reform, Policy and Communications Officer

Economic Justice Australia

Economic Justice Australia (EJA) is a peak body for community legal centres across the country which for nearly 30 years have provided specialist advice to individuals on their social security issues and rights. Our members help people to access income support in times when they are unable to support themselves.

EJA is recruiting a Law Reform, Policy and Communications Officer (LPCO) to play a key role in strengthening the social security system by capturing and communicating the casework experience of the EJA's member centres. This role involves providing evidence-based advice to government and other stakeholders about how the social security system can be improved.

EJA conducts major research projects every six months to highlight where the support provided by the social security system could be improved. Current project proposals being scoped include research into the relationship between social security and domestic violence, homelessness, older people and elder abuse.

This is an exciting new role where you will have the opportunity to assist in the development and implementation of a strategic communications plan on the findings and recommendations of research projects, as well as other key issues in social security law, policy and administration.

You will be responsible for driving the EJA Secretariat’s “business as usual” workload of providing submissions to all Parliamentary Inquiries and other consultations relevant to Social Security law, policy and administration issues in consultation with the Executive Officer and EJA members.

As EJA is a small and dynamic organisation, the ability to work flexibly and independently is essential.

A position description is attached.
