Womens Safety Services of Central Australia (WoSSCA) is a not-for-profit, non-government organisation that operates on a feminist framework and is committed to assisting and enabling women and children experiencing domestic and family violence.  WoSSCA provides several services which include 24-hour Crisis Accommodation, Outreach Service, Court Support, Men’s Behaviour Change Partner Support worker and Community Development and Training.

The Role

The Finance and Operations Lead is a key member of the WoSSCA Leadership Team. The role provides professional advice and support to the WoSSCA CEO, Board and Leadership Team, monitors and reports on the effective utilisation of assigned budgets, contributes to the analysis of data regarding service usage and oversees the development and implementation of finance and operational procedures and policies. The position contributes to budget development, acquittal, and audit processes, including the identification and subsequent submissions writing for appropriate grants. The Finance and Operations Lead is responsible for all aspects of financial management including payroll, tax, and statutory compliance.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide advice and support to the WoSSCA Board, CEO and Team Managers to prepare and manage budgets
  • Work closely with the CEO to build and manage the WoSSCA annual budget
  • Collate and analyse monthly budget monitoring reports and reports on variances to CEO, the Board and Leadership Team
  • Prepare various management accounting reports to ensure effective management of WoSSCA resources and adherence to guiding policy and procedures
  • Undertake financial acquittal for all WoSSCA grants in accordance with specified timeframes
  • Contribute to process and quality improvement regarding finance and data analysis
  • Assist with submission writing for grant applications
  • Contribute to data analysis regarding service usage and identifying themes and demand
  • Assist the CEO and Team Managers in producing resources that indicate service provision
  • Develop costing and cash flow models
  • Manage all aspects of fortnightly payroll
  • Contract Management and Compliance
  • Compliance with Tax and other applicable laws
  • Other reasonable duties as directed by the WoSSCA CEO

Selection Criteria

  • CA or CPA Qualified with experience in Not-for-Profit sector preferred 
  • Highly developed knowledge of and experience with contemporary budget development and management policies, processes, and systems
  • Demonstrated capacity to apply professional, ethical standards regarding information management 
  • Demonstrated capacity to apply data analysis principles and to interpret impact of that analysis on service provision
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to build and sustain strong business relationships and networks to drive change and achieve quality outcomes
  • Proven record of financial management, including payroll, accounts payable and relevant taxes
  • Ability to use software in the undertaking of their role, including automation and provision of operational dashboards
  • Demonstrated previous experience in quality improvement process.

Mandatory requirements

  • CA or CPA membership
  • A National Police Criminal History check (less than 3 months old) with acceptable outcome
  • Northern Territory Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card)
  • From 13 November 2021 potential employees are required to provide evidence of at least one dose of an approved COVID 19 vaccination and evidence of two doses by 24 December 2021 except in circumstances where there is a documented medical exemption as per NT Chief Health Officer Directions No. 55 of 2021
