The Opportunity to lead a team of Changemakers…

Reporting to the Head of Operations, you will provide strategic direction to the Prospect Research function, thought leadership, guidance to the Private Funding Leadership Team and other key stakeholders. You will be in charge of enabling and servicing the fundraising functions from a research perspective within the Private Funding business unit (which includes teams that steward relationships with individual Middle & Major Donors, Strategic Corporates, Trusts and Foundations and Gifts-in-Wills).

This role is intended to:

  • Provide strategic leadership by:
    • Designing, implementing and maintaining a Prospect Research strategy
    • Assuring a sound fiscal operation of the Prospect Research function
    • Providing relevant thought leadership and guidance to the Leadership/Executive Team
    • Training, developing, leading and mentoring the Prospect Research team
    • Establishing performance measures for the team and monitoring results and throughput
  • Ensure timely delivery of all work, effective resolution of disruptions by:
    • Effectively, efficiently and proactively managing stakeholders’ expectations
    • Handling detailed, complex concepts and problems and making rapid decisions
    • Developing an annual calendar to cover all crucial Prospect Research issues in a timely fashion
    • Supporting the design and implementation of cultivation, acknowledgment and recognition programs
  • Ensure the Prospect Research function delivers the highest level of quality by:
    • Identifying, building and managing an efficient research analysis and pipeline of prospective donors
    • Developing and implementing prospect research processes and protocols
    • Developing and implementing prospect screening and data mining activities to identify a prospective donor’s capacity and affinity to donate
    • Ensuring establishment of and compliance with WVA's philanthropic principles, policies and procedures
    • Keeping informed of developments, new technologies and approaches in philanthropy and fund development
    • As required, produce high quality research by conducting thorough research, analysis & validation using internal and external data sources (including media) to identify high quality prospects (capacity and philanthropic tendencies)
    • Evaluating the performance of fundraising activity against Prospect Research outputs
    • Assuring and managing the design and maintenance of donor and prospect records, CRM system…
  • Ensure there is a constant flow of prospects generated and converted by:
    • Ensuring a proactive pipeline of new prospects is sourced/developed
    • Planning and implementing research programs/initiatives with key stakeholders across the business
    • Manage the quality and integrity of prospect assignment, activity and profile data

Who we are looking for…

  • Degree and/or equivalent experience in a related discipline
  • Strong experience in a qualitative research role with significant specialised, high quality analytical prospect research and analysis experience gained in another large NFP or university
  • Significant knowledge in best practice Prospect Research principles, methodology, practice tools and resources
  • Significant people leadership experience
  • A strong communicator
  • Demonstrated knowledge of philanthropy and fundraising in the Australian landscape
  • FIA member or knowledge of the FIA code and standards
  • Prospect data analysis and interpretation
  • Developing prospect profiles and other written reports
  • Advanced excel, Salesforce and MS Dynamics CRM skills (highly desirable)
  • Building and managing relationships with key stakeholders. Sound commercial acumen
  • Excellent organisational, program/project management 
  • Having a long-term perspective and ability to think outside-the-box

This role is a permanent position operating in a full-time capacity and will be based at our head office in Burwood East, Victoria.
