Connected Beginning Programming Co-Convenor - Derby

The Opportunity to lead a team of Changemakers

The Connected Beginnings Programming Co-convenor is part of the West Kimberley project team and will co-lead the Connected Beginnings initiative in Derby and surrounding communities with the Governance Co-convenor. This initiative aims to bring about systemic change in the integration of child and maternal health, family support and education services for children under five years of age in these communities. The project will work with Aboriginal organisations and community groups to drive and co-design the initiative through working collaboratively with local services and agencies.

The holder of this position will have the following responsibilities:

  • Management of the development, implementation and evaluation of the Connected Beginnings Collective Impact Initiative
  • Relationship management of our implementation partners and stakeholders
  • Leadership and management of all Connected Beginnings staff with the Governance Co-convenor

You will play a key role in the project, responsible for leading the multi-disciplinary team to develop a collaborative community-led design and implementation process.

You will ensure that the initiative is on track, that key learnings along the way are incorporated in the iterative design of the project and the day to day contract, reporting and budget management.

The success of the project will rely on your ability to effectively develop and establish collaborative working relationships with local Aboriginal communities and other key stakeholders.

Connected Beginnings is a national initiative funded by the Commonwealth Government’s Department of Education and Training to provide financial and technical support for a ‘Collective Impact’ initiative aimed at maximising the effectiveness of the service system for Indigenous families with children under school age across Australia.

Who we are looking for…

To be a suitable candidate you must have substantial experience in project and financial management and leading a team. You will also need:

  • Experience supporting community engagement and participation
  • Demonstrated understanding of community development processes, gender equity, participatory approaches and development theory, collective impact methodology and systemic change
  • Experience in implementing a Collective Impact Initiative
  • Demonstrated professional experience or understanding of the cultural, political, economic and social issues affecting Aboriginal people in Western Australia
  • Degree qualification in Community, International Development, Early Childhood, Behavioural or Social Sciences, related discipline or equivalent experience
  • Driving licence
  • Ability to live remotely in Derby

What you need to know

This role is a fixed term contract (until June 2022) operating in a full-time capacity and will be based at our state office in Derby, Western Australia. Very remote benefits will be provided.
