Reporting to the Café Manager, we are seeking a Café Cook to produce a tasty menu to complement the speciality coffee we roast inhouse.

In this permanent full time role, you will be responsible for great food, excellent service and full compliance with all food handling and cooking safety and service requirements.

Your main duties and responsibilities will include:

  • General cooking and kitchen oversight
  • Prepare and properly present food for regular service and functions.
  • Training other staff in the correct preparation, cooking, presentation and storage of food.
  • Manage supplier relationships and Maintain par levels; Order and procure supplies needed to ensure efficient operation.
  • Prepare and properly present food for regular service and functions.
  • Provide costings of new menu items and maintain the budgetary targets provided by management.
  • Monitor and maintain stock levels to reduce wastage. 
  • Check the quantity and quality of received products to ensure items are as ordered and standards are met. Inspect equipment, work areas and general supplies to ensure established health and safety standards conformance.
  • All Rounder duties as required
  • Completion and compliance with any required OH & S and WVA training

Your skills and experience will include:

  • Food safety supervisor certification
  • Commercial cookery certification
  • Previous experience in similar role for a minimum of 2 years.
  • Rostering, managing and training of café staff
  • You will also be highly organised, comfortable with ordering, opening or closing procedures café point of sale and inventory systems
  • Food and drink preparation
  • You will have knowledge and experience in safe food handling and related OH & S requirement
  • Excellent customer service 
  • Flexibility, the ability to juggle multiple tasks at once 
  • Well aware of all current trends and Innovative in food that is Vegan/Vegetarian/ gluten free friendly

What you need to know

This role is a full time position and will be based in Little Things Café, Blackburn, Melbourne. We trade Monday to Saturday from 7:30am to 3pm. Sundays we are open for function bookings only. This position is shared with another cook, affording you flexibility in your work schedule to work around each other and swap shifts when necessary for you.

  • Demonstrated high level of computer literacy- Microsoft Office Suite; email, internet systems and excel

  • Ability to work with business processes / systems
  • High level of attention to detail and ability to respond quickly
