Rural Workforce Agency NT (RWA NT) are partnering with Marthakal Homelands Health Service (MHHS) to find a Remote Area Nurse to join their committed team located in Galiwin'ku (Elcho Island) Northern Territory.

MHHS is situated on Elcho Island and is a mobile Yolgnu Aboriginal Medical Service covering 15,000 square kilometres in remote East Arnhem Land with a population of approximately 250 to 400. Health services focus on Yolgnu people being healthier and living longer, whilst supporting Yolgnu culture and building strong relationships.

Being successful in the role, you will be able take a proactive approach to assist clients to address health issues in a holistic way. Working with local communities you are able to raise awareness of health issues and develop and implement intervention strategies to improve health.

Having collaborative health care partnerships, will assist in developing educational and intervention programs that address the contributory factors to wellness and empower clients to put in place a strategy that will improve their overall health and sense of wellbeing. 

What Do You Need To Apply?

  • Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse
  • Minimum of 2 years broad nursing experience post registration
  • Recognised Immunisation certificate or willingness to obtain
  • Understanding and commitment to the philosophy, aims and objectives of Primary Health Care
  • Remote Emergency Care certificate (REC) or willingness to obtain
  • Physical strength, fitness and general good health to undertake all activities that are required to function in the role
  • Ability to travel in light aircraft and on rural roads in a 4WD
  • Deliver primary health care in the natural environment, such as under trees or on verandahs
  • Current Class “A” drivers licence
  • Current Police Records and NT Working with Children clearances
  • Completed or willingness to complete a 4 wheel drive defensive course
  • Experience working with Aboriginal people or cross-cultural groups is highly desired
  • Previous Community Nursing experience looked on favourably
  • Qualification and/or experience in Midwifery, Child Health, Family Planning, Sexual Health, Aged Care and Chronic Disease, preferred but not essential
