RWA NT (Rural Workforce Agency NT) are partnering with Central Aboriginal Congress Aboriginal Corporation (Congress) to find a General Practitioner to join one of their 6 clinics located in Alice Springs.

Congress is the largest Aboriginal community controlled health organisation in the Northern Territory, and provides comprehensive, holistic and culturally appropriate primary health care services to the Aboriginal people living in and nearby Alice Springs.

The successful General Practitioner provides culturally safe services within a comprehensive primary health care framework across all sections of Congress' Health Service Division, and works to the principles, values and philosophy of Congress and an Aboriginal community controlled health service.

Responsibilities:

  • Undertake comprehensive primary health care clinical consultations in a holistic manner
  • Work in conjunction with a multidisciplinary team to optimise health and well-being of clients
  • Work with clients taking into consideration cultural practices and beliefs
  • Be available for after-hours and weekend duties as rostered
  • Assist Aboriginal health practitioners and registered nurses/midwives with clinical assessments

What You Need To Apply:

  • Unrestricted working rights within Australia
  • Current AHPRA registration
  • Fellow of RACGP or ACCRM or a minimum of five years' experience in general practice
  • Excellent communication skills, especially in a cross-cultural environment
  • Willingness and ability to accommodate Aboriginal values and traditions
  • Willingness to take cultural advice from Aboriginal staff
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to Aboriginal culture and history
  • Knowledge of current health issues affecting the lives of Aboriginal people
  • Experienced in chronic disease management
  • Willingness, ability and appropriate levels of health and fitness to travel and work from remote locations
  • Current NT Driver's License or the ability to obtain
  • Additional qualifications which may include DipRANZCOG, FARGP or MPH, highly desired
  • GP Registrar supervisor Specialist or General registration, considered favorably

  • Salary range of $185,971 to $214,656 based on experience

  • Opportunity for Workforce Incentive Program. Congress operates in MM6 and MM7 regions, providing access to annual gross MBS payments of up to $35K to $60K depending on performance

Appointment Conditions:

  • NT Working with Children Check (Ochre Card) and current Criminal history check
  • Employee interaction with residents within communities will be taken into account as part of the final performance assessments during the probation period
  • Persons being considered for a position with Congress may be required to undergo a pre-employment medical examination and drug screen to determine fitness to perform nominated duties
